Sensei Minoru Oshima was born in 1949 in Tochigi, Japan.  He began his training in Aikido in 1969 at the Aikikai Hombu dojo in Tokyo, Japan.  Two years later, he started his training under Sensei Koichi Tohei, Chief Instructor of the Aikikai Hombu dojo, and followed Sensei Koichi Tohei when he established the Ki Society, helping to open the organization’s first dojo in the Osaka area.

Sensei Oshima made his first trip to the United States in 1974.  He taught classes in the Los Angeles area for two years including a month-long seminar in Aspen, Colorado.  After he returned to Japan, he started several dojos such as the Hachioji dojo in Tokyo, which was established in 1976, along with undergoing intense training under Sensei Koichi Tohei as an uchideshi, or live-in student.  Sensei Oshima was promoted to Godan, a fifth degree black belt, in 1980, and thereafter moved to Florida, and opening dojos in Orlando and Gainesville.  In addition to his regular classes at the local dojos, he conducted classes for the officers of Florida Department of Corrections for three and a half years and also taught occasional classes for the Police Department, such as the state wide Police Advanced Defensive Tactics Workshops.

Sensei Oshima returned to Japan in 1989 and established Kodokai Aikido as the official name for his organization in 1990.  He moved back to California where he opened a dojo in Temecula as his world headquarters, and published his book, Ki Points, in 1995.  Sensei Oshima visits Japan and Florida regularly, among other places, and made his first trip to Australia in 2007.
